He holds a practicing certificate from the Chartered Institute of Taxation (Ghana) to provide tax services to Corporate Bodies and individuals.
He is a member in good standing of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) and an Investment representative under the Securities and Exchange Commission of Ghana.
He holds a Masters degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Birmingham (UK) and a first degree in Business Administration (Accounting major) from the Business School of the University of Ghana.
He has attended various International Leadership, Management, Information Technology and other specialized courses in Harvard Business School, Colombia and Cornell Universities in the USA and programmes organized by the National Banking College (GH), Institute of Chartered Accountants (GH), Chartered Institute of Taxation (GH), Ghana Stock Exchange, and other public and private sector institutions.
Fiifi's career started with the Internal Revenue Service (Now Ghana Revenue Authority in 1987 for nine years as a tax auditor rose to the level of Principal Inspector of Taxes. Over this period he was part of a team that carried out audits of companies in variuous sectors of the economy.
He subsequently worked as a project accountant on a project funded by the World Bank, DFID and Government of Ghana managed by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning for a three year period.
He played a pioneering role in the startup of First Atlantic Bank in 1995 and worked for seventeen years in various capacities in the Bank and held the position of an Executive Director for eight years.
He is a recipient of two awards under the Best and Brightest African Bankers programme in the U.S.A. and the Foreign Commonwealth British Chevening scholars programme in the U.K.
He served on the Research and Technical Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (GH) in the early 1990’s and currently serves on the Admissions Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (GH).
John is a professionally qualified practicing accountant, with over 20 years post qualification top management experience, good communication skills and strong inter personal qualities. He has extensive knowledge and experience as tax administrator (with the then IRS) and subsequently as tax consultant in private practice.
He has been a member in good standing of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) since 1993.
He is also member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (Ghana) and a practicing certificate from the Institute to provide tax services to Corporate Bodies and individuals.
John played a pioneering role in setting up the tax audit unit of the reorganization of the then Internal Revenue Service in 1986 and was part of the team authoring the first audit programmes, organized training sessions for newly employed staff of the unit, and provided supervisory role in review audit files. Also led in major tax audit assignments and forensic investigations of large taxpayers including Ashanti Goldfields Company (now Anglo Gold Ashanti) and various companies in the timber industry (to uncover massive evasion of taxes and customs duties which was the status quo at the time). He was also involved in providing advice to the Commissioner on impact of existing tax legislation, and expected impact of proposed legislation on taxpayers and government revenue.
As Tax Manager in Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC), John mainly advised new businesses and large multinational mining companies on local and cross-border tax issues. He was also responsible for managing tax affairs of top management and expatriate staff.
He authored the first publication of the firm’s “Doing business in Ghana” which is a quick reference guide to the tax environment in Ghana and also authored and delivered training courses on tax planning and savings schemes.
John also spent several years in both Ghana and Sierra Leone in top management roles where he had hands on abilities to design, implement, improve and manage internal control systems and has considerable experience in HR, Procurement, Stores and Community Affairs working with multinational companies.
He also has experience in preparation of feasibility reports for airline startups and hands-on experience in management of airline operations.
Abed, a director of ACA Holdings Limited, is an accomplished Accountant with over 30 years of experience in Accounting, Auditing and corporate Financial management and governance, in the private industry sectors of the economy.
A Chartered Accountant by profession, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana since 1990, he holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Ghana and has attended various seminars and continuing professional development programs, spanning banking and finance, corporate governance and good management practices, the Ghana Stock Exchange’s Securities and exchange training programs and other related Financial Planning and Management competency programs.
In 1983, Abed set out on a professional accounting career when he joined PWC, (then known as Coopers & Lybrand), obtaining the requisite training and practice in Accountancy Practice, Auditing, Taxation, Investigations and Management Consultancy and advisory services over a period of seven years and qualifying within this period to be admitted a member of the Ghana Institute of Chartered Accountants and obtained a practice certificate from the institute.
In 1991 / 1992, he was a part of a group of Chartered accountants who believed in the growth of the local Accountancy practice and set out to re-organize the management of a well-known local accountancy firm James Quagriane and Co whose founder, a celebrated Ghanaian Chartered Accountant was then too old to carry on.
He single-handedly took on the challenge of the setup of the Accounting, financial management and management reporting systems for Regimanuel-Gray Limited, a real estate management company that had only just started operations in the early 1990s. Where he introduced the full range of accounting and reporting systems for the then rapidly growing real estate company that provided the relevant management information that was to transform Regimanuel-Gray into a leading Real estate company in Ghana. This period also offered the requisite experience and understanding of the Real Estate industry in Ghana.
He served as a Project Finance Manager with Ballast Needam, (then known as Vermeer Ghana Limited), a mechanical construction company, specializing in laying of pipes and building of steel storage tanks for water and oil product transportation and storage.
He has since 1996 been a Finance Manager for AFGO Limited, an aviation and airport services provider at Kotoka International airport, which later become Aviance Ghana Limited where he served as Finance Director from 2002 to 2014 when he left as an expert in the Aviation industry in Ghana .
That relevant experience led to his appointment in May 2015, whiles on voluntary retirement and pursuing other interest in Project development and management, as the CFO for Swissport Ghana Limited to become a part of the start-up team of the company’s operations in Ghana, in competition with the already established handling companies.
Whiles working at the top as Financial Manager for all the various companies, Abed managed a private practice providing Management consultancy and other advisory services as well as accountancy, audit and taxation services. He also has been involved in the development of various real estate projects.
